Choosing a scooter

An electric scooter for a student: no licence, but how far will it go?

A narrow Hanoi street with yellow houses, green shutters and motorbikes on both sides

The question parents ask the shop most in August: which scooter can a teenager ride without a licence? The short answer is the eight models in the No licence needed group, all under 50 km/h.

What "no licence" means

Electric scooters with a top speed under 50 km/h need no licence, and riders must be 16 or older. All eight models in the group sit below that line, from about 25 km/h (Amio S, Amio S2) to 49 km/h (Flazz Max, Evo Lite).

Daily distance decides the model

The shop always asks first: how far is school, and are there evening classes?

Daily distanceUsual fitRange per charge
Under 15 kmAmio, Amio S, Amio S2about 65 km
15–30 kmZgoo, Evo Grand Lite70 km
Over 30 kmFlazz, Flazz Max, Evo Lite87–165 km

At 12 km a day, an Amio S2 needs charging about every five days. At 35 km, a Flazz or Evo Lite saves plugging in every night.

Prices in the group

Prices run from 9,600,000 VND (Amio, Amio S) to 17,400,000 VND (Evo Lite with batteries). Flazz Max and Evo Lite are battery-swap scooters: without batteries and with a monthly rental, they cost about 10,500,000 and 12,300,000 VND up front.

What parents tend to forget

  • A light scooter is easier to push onto a kerb or into the school's parking area.
  • An under-seat boot that fits a raincoat is enough for school.
  • Helmets are still compulsory, licence or not.

All eight models are in the shop, so students can check the seat height before parents decide.
